| 1964 |
Ollie watched the
Americans at Blackbush Airport. Don Garlits was there. |
|
|
 |
| 1973 |
Ollie bought
'Ollie's Folley' a senior altered Chevy powered plastic avenger (Funny
car style).
This was swapped for a road worthy 1968 Camero.
He then bought a front engine Top Dragster, the 'Lizard', powered by an

injected nitro. 'big block Chevy' driven by Liz
Burn. Best E.T. of 8.53 sec. Sold to Johnny Wright. Then bought GTX Top Fuel Dragster from Clive Skilton, powered by a
blown 392, which Clive crashed before Ollie received it. Was
rebuilt by Clive and Dennis priddle over the winter and delivered April
'74. |

Barry Young and
Johnny Wright built a 'middle comp Altered' at Johnny Wright's farm
(apparently where the Birmingham NEC now stands), powered by a straight
six Jaguar. The body was made in Birmingham by Tony Froome where
Mickey Moore was introduced to Barry Young. They stayed team mates
through to 1980. They came to know Liz and Ollie from meeting at
races. |
|
 |
| 1974 |
The new 'Lizard'
achieved a best run of 204mph, but on that run Liz crashed very badly.
Clive lent Ollie an altered chassis and body, the 'Liz & Ollie'
which he used for the rest of '74
 |
|
|
 |
| 1975 |
A new 'pro comp'
Lizard was built, tested by Ollie, driven by Liz, powered by a 392. Crew
included Mike Pierse.
 |

Mickey and Barry bought the 'Sunburst' front engine dragster
powered by poncho motor from Tony Froome, originally built by Benbow
& Fullerton, which Barry drove. |
|
 |
| 1976 |
Ollie bought his own
car the 'Komodo Dragon'.
The chassis was from Dennis Priddle with a Vega body built by Fibre
Glass Applications. Due to the heavy involvement of Liz in the
European Championship the car was hardly used. |
Sunburst held 1/8th
mile terminal speed of 148mph which stood for 11 years. |
|
 |
| 1977 |
Liz won the
Gauloise
European pro comp championship
 |
The Sunburst chassis
was rebuilt by Ollie and Mickey at Ollie's workshop. It changed
its name to 'Desperodo'.
The poncho motor was sold
to Barry Shevills and replaced with a blown 392. Best run of
192.9mph which stood as the second quickest for six months. In late '77
the motor blew dramatically causing Mickey to retire for a couple of
years and Barry to retire forever. |
|
 |
| 1978 |
Liz won the
Gauloise European pro comp championship
 |
|
|
 |
| 1979 |
Drag racing was put
on the back burner for personal reasons |
|
|
 |
| 1980 |
After doing some
adverts for a jeans company the Lizard was sold to a racer from Finland.
 |
|
|
 |
| 1981 |
Ollie built a
altered chassis for himself but then sold it to Vic Hammond. |
|
|
 |
| 1982 |
Ollie built a rear
engine pro comp car which was bought by Doug Bond. |
|
|
 |
1989-
1999 |
Mickey bought
Cockney Rebel from Vic Hammond and run a blown 392. The car was
originally to be driven by Vic, then Johnny Wright had a go (pictured
left)...
.....but
Mickey ended up in the driving seat. The car stayed in Top Alcohol until
the guy's decided to stop having so much fun at the weekends and take it
a little more seriously. In goes the
nitro....................but the fun
continues!! |
